5am club is so not my thing

i gave it a shot, and it didn't work. 🌅

onto today’s topic: 5am club is so not my thing 🌅

“don’t knock it until you try it!”

i did knock it. for 3 months. and it was not successful. ❌

i’m the type of person that will test productivity experiments and new strategies on myself with full dedication. my 5am streak lasted 3 months until i eventually concluded my days were not any more productive. in fact, i was even less productive since i was more tired towards the evenings.

i’m not a huge fan of self-help books preaching an ingredient list for success (often including waking up at 5am). each person works differently — my mornings are best for reflecting, writing and taking meetings. ✍️ i find it extremely challenging to do deep work and concentrate on something wholeheartedly when i haven’t been energized through social interaction or introspective time with myself.

during my 5am trial, i tried my absolute hardest to focus on my research and/or school work at the time, but i found myself just pulling a mental blank.

i’ve noticed that i operate most efficiently while the sun is out. sunlight energizes me — it inhibits my melatonin production after all. on this same note, i hate that the sun sets at 5pm now. my evenings have been much more sluggish since daylight savings. i promise i’m not a plant. 🪴

i gave 5am club a shot, and it missed the mark for me.

have you given it a try?
