a novel premise? count me in 📕

onto today’s topic: a reader’s rambling 📕

i just finished reading scythe by neal shusterman and was very satisfied with it. i love it when a book has a neat, conclusive ending. i won’t say much more so i don’t spoil it (highly recommend btw!). funnily enough, the dystopian setting didn’t seem too far from the realm of possibility for our reality’s future. i felt the same way when i watched the matrix as well.

when i get so drawn into a novel’s premise, it immediately leaves a positive impression on me — even if the characters aren’t particularly remarkable. if a novel can introduce to me a new idea, concept or world, i’m hooked. rather than analyzing characters and relationships, i enjoy analyzing settings, social constructs, morality, and technological advancement that set up the foundation for a plot. this is also why i tend to pick up sci-fi and fantasy books before any other options. 🪄

there’s always a bitter aftertaste knowing the last page turned marks the end of that world. of course, i can leave the next events up to my imagination but it’s not the same. if only the timelines of our favourite characters could run in parallel of our own. i forgot how young percy jackson was until i reread the first book for fun earlier this year — i couldn’t really relate to the show either as it was catered to kids.

my favourite books leave me wondering how those characters’ lives and their world would have panned out years later.

reading is the easiest way to develop perspective and challenge your own beliefs. i’m glad i’ve picked it back up again. (:
