onto today’s topic: action precedes inspiration 🌈

when you don’t feel like doing something — put yourself in an environment where you do.

inspiration rarely strikes like a bolt of lightning out of nowhere. something in your environment, whether that’s the physical surroundings or your energy, changed in order to fuel your desire to complete a task. it’s up to you to take that action to enable further progress.

procrastination is exactly that: avoiding putting yourself in a productive environment.

momentum often comes before motivation. once you get into the groove of a task, that motivation will build to reach the endpoint. the real purpose for inspiration is to sustain that momentum, your action kickstarts it — not the other way around.

if you have no motivation to run your 5km in the morning, at least go walk. relying on something as ambiguous as “feeling inspired” is never going to get you across the finish line. once you’re outside, chances are you’ll feel like running now that you’ve already bothered to get ready for it.

you have to take that action. motivation isn’t reliable without any foundational action. the key to creating momentum is to focus on simple, manageable tasks. the pipeline from inspiration → motivation → action isn’t linear, despite what we’ve all led ourselves to believe. it’s circular.

action sparks inspiration, and that’s a whole lot more reliable.
