onto todayâs topic: action precedes inspiration đ
when you donât feel like doing something â put yourself in an environment where you do.
inspiration rarely strikes like a bolt of lightning out of nowhere. something in your environment, whether thatâs the physical surroundings or your energy, changed in order to fuel your desire to complete a task. itâs up to you to take that action to enable further progress.
procrastination is exactly that: avoiding putting yourself in a productive environment.
momentum often comes before motivation. once you get into the groove of a task, that motivation will build to reach the endpoint. the real purpose for inspiration is to sustain that momentum, your action kickstarts it â not the other way around.
if you have no motivation to run your 5km in the morning, at least go walk. relying on something as ambiguous as âfeeling inspiredâ is never going to get you across the finish line. once youâre outside, chances are youâll feel like running now that youâve already bothered to get ready for it.
you have to take that action. motivation isnât reliable without any foundational action. the key to creating momentum is to focus on simple, manageable tasks. the pipeline from inspiration â motivation â action isnât linear, despite what weâve all led ourselves to believe. itâs circular.
action sparks inspiration, and thatâs a whole lot more reliable.
