onto today’s topic: an amusing thing about america 🇺🇸

i was at a dinner for international students yesterday evening and one of the icebreaker questions was to share the most amusing/irritating/funny thing about america. i found myself relating a surprising amount because i often don’t really observe many differences between america and canada.

turns out there are a lot of smaller nuances i never properly acknowledged.

one of them is the fact that getting water out of a beverage dispenser is literally an impossible task. 😵‍💫

allow me to elaborate.

in my personal experience, getting water from a drink machine is hardly a challenge. there’s a separate dispenser for water and sometimes even different brands. at the dining halls here, and also at restaurants off campus, the water is literally non-existent.

it’s a small white tab that you practically need a magnifying glass for located underneath another drink. 🥤of course, that other drink is always a carbonated drink with a billion grams of sugar. not only that, the “water dispenser” is always out of order or barely working. i have had to watch my cup get filled drop by drop for 10 whole minutes …

unhealthy consumption being the default status is really amusing to me. i was genuinely standing in front of the dispenser with my empty glass in confusion for so long when i first encountered the machine.

i could write multiple posts on things i find amusing but i’ll spare you all from that. 😭
