onto today’s topic: no shame in “being extra” 🤚
i believe one of the most ridiculous things to shame someone for is putting in extra effort.
you shouldn’t feel embarrassed for trying too hard. holding yourself to a higher level of excellence and following through with it should be something to pride yourself in.
you decided to create a recap activity and written summary in addition to the powerpoint assignment? amazing, submit it with confidence. you were able to make time, go the extra mile and refine your skillset — why should the fear of someone calling you a “tryhard” demean that?
yeah, i’m a tryhard. i enjoy surpassing expectations pinned on me. i like thinking outside the box and acting on those ideas. i relish in the feeling of challenging and expressing myself to the fullest. 💫
this doesn’t just apply to academics and submitting projects for school. a simple example is just getting ready for the day. you’ll stop yourself from wearing a pair of larger earrings or a skirt on a casual day, because you don’t want to be “extra.” how is adhering to your self-expression a bad thing? i literally change the charms on my phone every day to match my outfit … is that not the most extra thing ever? it’s wonderful.
take up space! effort is never a bad thing. don’t stop yourself from adding an extra detail to a school project or an outfit. don’t hold yourself back from filming an intro video to supplement an internship application. don’t shy away from asking insightful questions while amongst a huge crowd. 🎤
the people that really matter not only recognize effort, but deeply appreciate and even reward it.
be extra!
