onto today’s topic: be uncomfortable 😵‍💫

evaluate all the things you do in your life.

if everything is within your comfort zone, you’re not growing.

sure, you can be comfortable with the process of learning and cruising through school. that, however, isn’t progressing your character or mental fortitude any further. do the harder questions, run the extra mile, strike up a random conversation, and do things that make you want to curl up in a corner and die! 😇

classify small activities in your life into 3 buckets: the comfort zone, learning zone, and alarm zone.

obviously, the comfort zone includes anything you have no hesitation doing. the learning zone makes us feel a little iffy, but we know we can do it if we really push ourselves. finally, the alarm zone is where we draw hard limits and will genuinely be distraught trying. 😬

some things in my 3 buckets:

  • comfort → height-related activities, posting content

  • learning → striking up conversations with strangers, being vulnerable

  • alarm → drinking alcohol

our learning zones are bigger than we think they are. really think hard about what will actually make you irreparably uncomfortable, and what’s doable. ⚖️

becoming comfortable while uncomfortable might be counter intuitive, but you’ll grow so much if you make that minor mental tweak to embrace discomfort rather than immediately casting it away.

my biggest advice for tackling more and more things in your learning zone is to just go for it without leaving time for overthinking. mulling over things leaves you with too much leeway to talk yourself out of diving into uncertainty. don’t let your brain catch up. 😋
