the best season

hint: it's not spring ☁️

onto today’s topic: the best season ☁️

i feel like my answer changes for this question every day because there are so many different contexts. are we talking holidays? weather? outfit choices? the list is endless.

i can easily tell you what my favourite kind of weather is (sunny with a breeze), but with seasons, it gets a little complicated.

this topic is so random, but i’m staring out my window and watching rain patter away, so this is pretty top of mind right now.

let me break down each season’s pros and cons. 😗 disclaimer: these are canadian seasons … so canadian (more specifically, the toronto area) climate.

winter

  • pros: my birthday (!), christmas, snow days, ice skating season, winter break, new years

  • cons: i have to cover my outfits with a jacket, it’s cold, exams, staying indoors most of the time

spring

  • pros: spring break, flowers, it’s getting warmer, more outfit possibilities

  • cons: so much rain ☔️, frizzy hair 24/7, still minimal outdoors time

summer

  • pros: school is out (!), rollerblading is in full blast, street markets, everyone is outside, 70% of my closet’s potential can be maximized, more internship/unique opportunities, social season, ICE CREAM

  • cons: it gets really hot, onset of an existential crisis sometimes, humidity always ruins my mood

autumn

  • pros: my best outfits + 95% of my closet’s potential maximized, rollerblading still going strong, halloween, ideal weather, colourful trees

  • cons: getting back into school, days are getting shorter, no school break 💔

visually, it’s pretty clear that summer is my favourite season. again, this is the toronto summer, so it’s not unbearably hot. it also comes down to how much i value different factors. summer offers the most of what i love, except my outfit potential, which i can compromise on.

i’ve found that people are generally outside and exploring more in the summer because of the sheer number of different events, markets, concerts, conferences and so much more. it’s a fun time to be with friends, and learn in new spaces.

being outside with friends and taking on unique opportunities are 2 things i value the most in this roster of pros and cons, and summer maximizes both.

sentimentally, i’d say winter is my favourite season. there’s just so much love intertwined within the different holidays — especially my birthday — that i can’t help looking forward to it. autumn is a nice middle ground: serene, yet still maintaining my summer lifestyle.

on the other hand, spring is kind of boring. i know it’s a hot take, but spring is, and always has been, pretty forgettable and uneventful for me. the weather isn’t particularly great either.

for a brain dump on seasons, this sure was long. i guess the rain sparked some passion, LOL. my final ranking: 1) summer 2) winter/fall 3) spring.

what’s your favourite season?

cool finds of the day 🔍️
