onto today’s topic: bigshots don’t always get it right ✅
had the cool opportunity to see barbara corcoran (from shark tank!), vinod khosla and a ton of other cool people speak today at the startup world cup in sf.
despite the event being full of bigshots and being organized by pretty renowned people, i was a bit surprised by the organization of the event.
if there’s one thing you should know about san francisco, it’s that it is very diverse. everyone here knows that and you’ll never go to an event that doesn’t have vegan, gluten-free, halal, vegetarian and tons of other food options. this event didn’t plan for that accordingly and there was a huge group of us vegetarian/vegans staring at the empty little section of the table designated for the one vegan lunch meal option. 🥙
we were told to wait while the organizers ordered more food, but after 20 minutes i just walked to chipotle and got my own food LOL. small mishaps in planning like this leave a large impression.
this was even more shocking since this event was bringing people from all around the world to pitch their startups, and there are many cultural considerations with food restrictions.
not to mention the host and interviewers didn’t sound very prepared. they didn’t know how to pronounce tekedra mawakana’s (co-ceo of waymo) name after all — even though she was an esteemed guest speaker.
maybe this is just me being nitpicky because i’ve been to a lot of events in the bay now, but i guess even bigshots get things like event planning wrong sometimes.
details matter! 🔍️
