onto today’s topic: chronic emoji usage 😁

i am a proud emoji user. words alone feel too bland .. where’s the flavour?

when i’m texting people, i probably use at least 1 emoji per sentence and then dial it back before hitting send as i internalize just how colourful the text i crafted is.

the thing is i use them unironically too. especially this lineup: 😁 😇 😋 & 😍.

a text thread without emojis feels unbearably dry. they help compensate for the lack of expressiveness that i could have offered through my voice or face. over text, i’m solely working with words typed out on a screen. emojis add tone to a text that was otherwise missing this layer of communication.

not to mention they’re just so cutesy. i adore these emojis for that exact effect: 💌 🍰 🍓 & ⭐️.

if you look at any informal piece of content i’ve put out into the world (including every single one of these blog posts), i always make it a point to include emojis. they add colour, and as trivial as it seems, they truly do make a difference in making content more relatable, easy to digest, and interesting.

i feel so awkward whenever i text someone and they use 0 emojis. it kind of feels like talking to a wall, because i tend to associate emoji usage with one checkbox for humour.

what’s your texting style like?
