onto today’s topic: college culture from a gapper ❤️🔥
i went to my first football game today, and i’m not even in college! 🏈
i’ve been experiencing my best version of life for the past two months and this thrill was also creating a small pit of dread for me: “how am i going to want to go to college after this?”
seeing and experiencing the usc vs. ucla football game today helped me affirm that college is truly a one-of-a-kind experience that everyone should at least give a try.
despite being on a gap year i’ve been able to take in small tastes of the college experience at uc berkeley, stanford and usc — i’m collecting them like infinity stones. 🪨
there’s a thrill to dressing up in school colours and joining an entire campus in a spirit war. there’s joy in the tight community. there’s fun in the intense rivalry between two colleges and seeing the wrapped up usc statues in an attempt to keep ucla students away from vandalizing.
the only place to experience this culture wholeheartedly is in college. 🤓
something i’ve also noticed is that school spirit in the us is 100x more intense than canada. you won’t even hear of a football or basketball game in canada, much less see people decked out in school merch. in the us, it’s grand — just like the movies, and i absolutely am in love with it. 🎬️
people love their schools, and that just brings the community so much tighter together. it’s hilarious that thousands of people can bond over hating another school despite probably never watching a single football game in their life.
