onto today’s topic: comfort isn’t wrong ☀️
seeking discomfort is probably one of the best things you can do for your personal growth and learning. my greatest points of learning have definitely come from instances where i wasn’t surrounded by familiarity or certainty. risks were taken and boundaries were pushed. 🏆️
however, i’ve noticed a toxic culture arising that rejects comfort all-together because it doesn’t provide any ‘value.’ capitalism strikes again, yeah? our lives don’t need to revolve around being productive machines pumping out kpis and making personal development a race.
comfort is important — it’s healing. 🫂 you could book an all-inclusive spa to recharge and knock yourself out of burnout, but i can guarantee that it will never provide the same relaxation that comfort does.
comfort is a warm meal that you can always rely on. it’s watching reruns of your favourite shows curled up in your warm blankets. it’s being surrounded by family and friends. it’s taking a walk along the same route each morning.
of course, becoming complacent with comfort may stunt your growth and ambition, but it’s not a bad thing to return to in order to ground yourself in appreciation for the little things. i’m the type of person that has gradually become comfortable with discomfort and the unknown, which sounds a little counterintuitive, but i enjoy figuring things out and it has become like second-nature to me.
still, returning home immediately washed a relieving feeling of comfort over me. familiarity isn’t wrong — i don’t think it’s a waste of time nor useless for personal growth. 📈
challenge yourself to relish in discomfort, but know it’s okay to seek comfort as well.
