onto today’s topic: corner 🗺️

many of you know that i love traveling and exploring new cities. my strategy for finding cool, hidden gem, spots to hit is typically scrolling tiktok or asking friends for recommendations — i’ve noticed that google maps’ recommendations and reviews are sorely outdated, and to be completely honest, not exactly catered to my generation. the same goes for the “top 10 things to do in ____” articles written by millennials.

discovering corner was like my holy grail for perfectly aligned must-do recommendations. i think of google maps as more of a navigation app — corner is the tool for exploration and discovery. essentially, it’s a social travel app that lets users create personalized maps of their favorite places and share recommendations with friends. it focuses on authentic, word-of-mouth suggestions rather than traditional reviews, making discovery more personal and community-driven.

it’s not exactly technologically innovative, but the great user experience and design is the selling point. just download the app and experience the welcome sequence — trust me. 🙏

this app is my current addiction, so shameless plug of my account: corner.inc/harsehaj. i’m in the process of adding all the places i visited during my gap year so pls be patient with me.

let’s talk numbers! 🤓

corner operates in both the broader social networking app market, which is valued at $190.4 billion and is projected to grow at a cagr of 7.99% from 2024 to 2032 (source), as well as the online travel market, estimated to grow at a cagr of 4.8% from $658.38 billion (source).

the app has received positive feedback, with a 4.5 out of 5 rating on the apple app store and 20,000+ users spanning 400+ cities within a year (source).

questions i’d be interested to ask:

  • what do you envision for the monetization model?

  • what does your current user testing and interviewing process look like?

shoutout sualeha for putting me on corner. ;)
