onto today’s topic: cultivating mudita 🧘♀️
a lot of my happiness comes from helping others succeed and watching them thrive. it’s why a lot of my projects and internships gravitate towards solving inaccessibility to education or healthcare. i’m the type of person that is always sending links of cool opportunities to friends that i think would really benefit — this blog is also my way of doing that at a broader scale. ;) unlocking others’ true potential is so rewarding.
a while back, i was introduced to the term “mudita” which resonates perfectly with this specific kind of joy. mudita is a sanskrit term meaning “joy” and it refers to the kind of pleasure obtained from seeing others do well. 💌 the term is commonly compared to satisfaction and joy that a parent gets from witnessing their child grow up and become successful.
buddhist teachers compare mudita to an inner spring of infinite joy that is available to everyone at all times, regardless of circumstances.
“the more deeply one drinks of this spring,
the more securely one becomes in one's own abundant happiness,
the more bountiful it becomes to relish the joy of other people.”
mudita is a pure joy unadulterated by self-interest. 🌈
in the long-run, choosing to share with others opposed to gatekeeping will bring you more wealth — in friendship, success and happiness.
cultivate joy from witnessing that of others.
