openai devday recap

building is about to go crazy šŸ¤–

onto todayā€™s topic: openaiā€™s devday recap šŸ¤–

BRO. if you havenā€™t read a recap on openaiā€™s devday yet, what are you doing?

the world is changing right before your eyes! you donā€™t need to know how to code anything in order to create ai tools. wild.

for context, openai (the company that created chatgpt) held their devday event where they announced upcoming features. itā€™s like when apple has those big keynote events where they drop mind blowing updates or the next iphone. openaiā€™s devday was a lot more exciting than the iphone getting another camera in my humble opinion.

iā€™m not going to spend much time recapping the event, you can read tons of those online. honestly, iā€™d recommend just scanning through openaiā€™s official release here. šŸ“•

instead, this post is for me to geek out about the different features iā€™m excited for.

1. app store? nah, gpt store.

openai is creating a gpt store, like appleā€™s app store, where developers can publish ai apps, and user can download them with ease.

2. ease of monetization

along the line of the gpt store, openai will be enabling monetization and actually paying successful gpt developers a portion of openaiā€™s revenue. this is a huge unlock.

3. dall-e 3 api

oh my GOD. the possibilities are so endless right now. dall-e 3 is openaiā€™s image generation model, and it was previously inaccessible as an api, meaning developers couldnā€™t make use of it in the apps they built. now, it is accessible!

tl;dr: cs degrees are looking a liiiittle precarious right now. ai/emerging tech specializations are where the need is (ex. AR/VR, AI/ML, computer vision). yeah, the degree might be a good foundation, but those foundational concepts arenā€™t required in industry anymore besides maybe leetcode interviews. šŸ˜

weigh your options! tech is changing rapidly, as always.
