onto today’s topic: wrestling with distractions 🥏
last week i was extremely distracted. i didn’t meet a lot of the goals i set up for myself professionally, personally, and health-wise.
it’s not even that i had too many different sparkly events to attend in sf. instead, i found myself reaching for my phone every 10 minutes. my attention span was going through it. 📱
i rarely get distracted by tiktok or social media since i have specific times of the day set for when i allow myself to doom scroll for a few minutes. that was all lost last week and my phone screen time skyrocketed to 7 hours per day (typically 3-4 hours).
i made excuses like “oh, i can do this later,” and “i should take a break,” over an over again when no, i could not in fact do it later, and no i did not need a break. a break from what? doing nothing? 😭
i was trying to brainstorm why i fell into this slump last week, and nothing concrete came to mind. one hypothesis, however, is that my commute is tiring me out.
since getting into founders, inc.’s builder in residence program, i’ve been commuting for 3 hours of my day every weekday. while i do enjoy public transit and listening to music as i wrap up miscellaneous tasks, it is definitely more tiring than i initially thought it would be. 🚌
i always have a work block scheduled in for after i getting home and taking a quick break, but that break turns into a long one and eventually blends into dinner and then getting ready to sleep.
i have little energy left to do my work after commuting, and that sluggishness carried over to the next day. it’s infectious. 😵
to test this hypothesis out, i’m going to commute 4 days instead of 5 this week. let’s see if i’m back on top of things.
