onto today’s topic: happy diwali 🪔
each year without fail i spend my diwali with my family, lighting fireworks, eating my mom’s pakora, and spending time together. this year i wasn’t with my family and it felt so weird answering, “how are you celebrating diwali?”
i ended up going to 2 diwali events at uc berkeley and stanford with friends, which was a blast. yet still, diwali is a very family-centered celebration to me, and i felt the most homesick i have for the past 2.5 months.
wishing my parents and siblings “happy diwali” over text and the phone didn’t hit the same. i wanted to hug them tight in the morning and dish out gulab jamun to each other as we watch the whole neighbourhood light up with fireworks in the evening. 🫂
i wore my jhumkas today with pride and was excited to wish random people decked out in cultural clothing happy diwali, receiving the same wishes back.
to everyone that is reading, happy diwali. i hope your journey is filled with light and love, no matter how hard some of the bumps along the way may seem at times.
there is so much light in the world — sometimes, it just needs to take over the sky for us to realize it. 🎆
