onto today’s topic: eating while traveling 🍴
i’ve noticed that there are two types of travelers when it comes to incorporating food into a schedule. i’m currently on a trip in hawaii for spring break with my family and this difference is pretty evident. neither is inherently good or bad, it’s just a matter of personal preference.
i’m the type of person that treats food as an entire event and core piece of my travels. honestly, 50% of my solo-trips are probably spent checking out new cafés and restaurants. i build my days around my meals and what other spots to hit in close proximity to the restaurants i have in mind. 😋
food tells me a lot about a new city or country’s culture. i try my best to avoid eating any fast food or from big chains when i’m traveling as well — i enjoy expanding my taste to that of a local’s.
the other type of traveler is the kind where food is simply sustenance to fuel the day’s exploration. a quick grab and go, ~1-2 proper meals per day, and prioritizing tours/different activities to fill the day with.
i personally need all of my meals to be proper or i won’t enjoy the day at all. 😭 i don’t really mind not hitting all the major tourist spots, but i understand the other perspective completely.
what kind of traveler are you?
