onto today’s topic: fictional world for a month 🪄
i recently filled out (yet another) application and i liked one of the questions a lot: if you could live in any fictional world for a month, where would you go, and why?
i’m the type of person that writes pretty authentically and casually in my applications, and it tends to resonate well with the person on the other end reviewing (for the most part). i also made sure to still cater my response to who i hypothesized the type of reviewer would be. 😁
the key part of this question that determined what route to take with my answer was “one month.” not forever.
my answer (word-for-word):
“there’s a studio ghibli film called “my neighbour totoro” and i would probably make my way over to that fictional world for a month. rather than living up my overpowered percy jackson dreams, or going on an adventure to find the one piece, i’d love to live in a world where i have little-to-no worries and can venture off into the magically beautiful unknown. in this month, i’d optimize for wonder and rejuvenation more than anything else. my neighbour totoro takes place in a seemingly normal world until the main characters unveil the mysteriously cute spirits behind the scenes. the plants are whimsical and the settings transport me back to the feeling of childhood giddiness. why not have a month-long vacation full of magic?” 🧚
my application ended up getting accepted (yay!) and i think it had a lot to do with this question — i didn’t hyper-focus on highlighting different resume points, and instead showcased some of my interests and personality.
