onto today’s topic: freedom in being unhinged 😇
“make a good first impression.”
honestly, outside of work/professional interactions where everything is quite literally built upon social reputation and status, i’d rephrase that statement to be more like, “make an unfiltered first you impression.”
there’s so much freedom in just being unhinged when you meet people. yeah, spit out of pocket jokes and not putting up any fronts. i have finally gotten comfortable enough at unc with my group of people that i don’t feel this pressure in the back of my mind to “be likeable.” 🔪
why wait to develop a friendship based on false pretenses to eventually show your full self, when you could instead meet the right people that appreciate your sense of humour, presence, and the value you bring to your shared table right from the get-go?
don’t water down your personality to meet the tastes of others. ❤️🩹
i’ve already talked about my joy in being a public nuisance, and turns out, it’s so much easier to genuinely connect with others when i’m not second-guessing if i’m being too much. who would’ve thought? we all know this, but it’s harder to internalize without putting it into practice.
be loud, be unhinged. worst case is you’ll put a smile on some stranger’s face. 🤷♀️
