onto today’s topic: gratitude fuels positivity 💌
try not to mention taking a gap year for 5 posts challenge.
failed.
a big point of growth for me while on my gap year was fostering an attitude of gratitude which channeled into a more positive outlook on life. 🌱
it manifested through a tangible method: flipping complaints into points of appreciation. it’s a really hard change to develop mentally — the gap year was uniquely positioned to drive the most impact and really enable this growth area to hit home.
even if things went wrong, i just thought, “wow, i’m in another country exploring everything it has to offer. there’s so much to be grateful for.” of course i’d feel that way while traveling abroad and living such a thrilling life. it’s because i was able to experience firsthand how meaningless complaining is in the face of everything i could be thankful for that i enjoyed every minute of my gap year so deeply. 🗺️
that gratitude stemming from looking past struggle has left a lasting impression on my mentality, and i rarely find myself genuinely complaining. i just landed in bishop, california for my geology research class trip, and i’m brimming with excitement.
i’m grateful for the bunk beds, the cooked meals, running water, and opportunity to explore more of the unknown. my gratitude has had a direct effect on how happy i am to be here.
it seems like a bit of a no brainer, right? we often forget that being appreciative of what we have, also makes us more happy in the present.
