onto today’s topic: hosting 101 🪑

i spent the past weekend in dallas, and had a blast. was it because i got to go to enhypen’s concert? maybe. more importantly, it was because of my friend sualeha who hosted me in texas. :)

towards the end of my stay, we had a really great conversation on hosting dynamics with guests, and it gave me a chance to reflect on how wonderful my weekend in dallas was because of her warm hosting.

it’s one thing to say “yes” to someone crashing at your place. it’s another to show them around and experience new things together.

i only spent 2 nights in dallas, but it felt so much longer because of how many laughs we shared, sights we saw, and car karaoke sessions we had. it seems impossible to do so much in one weekend. there was never a moment of awkward silence or boredom, which i appreciate from the bottom of my heart.

in today’s western society, hospitality is a criminally overlooked characteristic. my trip kind of gave me a reality check of how i can be a better host and extend a hand of hospitality to others.

it goes beyond hosting events and offering people a glass of water. 😭 there is care in keeping a conversation going, and coming up with thoughtful questions. at one point i thought to myself, “how on earth does sualeha have this arsenal of personal, meaningful questions?”

from personal experience, people that genuinely enjoy hosting are some of the best people. i need to exercise my hosting and hospitality muscle, i’ve been inspired. ⚡️
