onto today’s topic: my weird hyperfixations 🏹

every month i find myself hyperfixating on a new meal. meaning i will eat a certain meal every single day until i get sick of it. like sick to the point that i will literally cringe just thinking about it after my obsession passes.

right now, my hyperfixation meal is a smoothie and chocolate croissant for breakfast. 🥐

2 months ago, it was a warm caprese sandwich for brunch.

a few months before moving, it was cheesy garlic bread with guac and chips for lunch. my day would literally be ruined if i went home and realized we were out of avocado.

the reason why i hyperfixate on meals is because i appreciate the consistency and reliability of eating something yummy every day. i don’t have to waste time on thinking about what to eat or where to get it. on the same note, it’s a mess if something is out of order. one day the café i got my sandwich at ran out of my favourite, and i refused to get a different one, opting for a cliff bar instead LOL.

some people meal plan for the week to save themself the time and energy on thinking of what to eat. i hyperfixate. 😍

throughout my childhood, this hyperfixation tendency took the form of delving super deep into different hobbies and then abandoning it 2 months later (i didn’t have to think of what to eat then, my parents did that for me 🙏). my painting, embroidery, pottery and tons of other supplies stored in the back of my closet back home are a testament to this.

my day-to-day is so variable with different events, new problems to debug and much more, that i find a lot of stability in standardizing the daily necessities. going with the flow and riding bursts of energy is only sustainable if something grounds me, which is why i think i fall into this pattern of hyperfixating on my meals and being very particular about morning/night routines.

do you tend to hyperfixate on anything?
