onto today’s topic: i keep my phone on dnd 📱
dnd = do not disturb.
you might be thinking, “well what about emergencies?!” relaaax i have my very important people set as exceptions in my dnd settings, but besides that i don’t get notified of anything. 🔇
i have a tendency of getting distracted by notifications and then getting side-tracked on my phone, as i start fulfilling random side quests. leaving my phone on dnd allows me to check notifications on my own terms without being pulled out of a deep work flow.
i only get intensive work done when i’m in a certain flow. once that is disturbed, it’s hard for me to regain focus. when my work is done for the day, i miiight consider taking my phone off dnd, but even then i leave it off. it just doesn’t feel good to pick up my phone every 5 minutes when i could be more present spending time with my family, reading or rollerblading. 📖
despite my phone being on dnd, i’d say my reply game is still pretty good. the key is consistency, even with checking notifications. i’ll go through them thoroughly after breakfast and before getting ready to sleep. throughout the day, i’ll do brief checks in case of more urgent notifications. 🔔
i’ve been doing this for a week now, and my phone pickups (you can actually check this statistic in your screentime settings) have reduced by 50%. the numbers show!
you guys already know i’m one to test out productivity experiments on myself all the time. this one is a success (for now)! 🥳
do you leave your phone on dnd?
