i love long commutes

one of my small joys 🚌

onto today’s topic: i love long commutes 🚌

if i have nowhere urgent to be, i prefer a 20 minute bus ride over 5 minutes, and traveling has only made this stance stronger. a few minutes to put on my headphones, dissociate and read is exactly what i need on my busy days.

even outside the traveling context, i thoroughly enjoyed commuting 40 minutes between berkeley and san francisco multiple times a week back in the fall when i was interning / building my own projects.

despite giving myself breaks, there sometimes still is that lingering urge of “you could be doing something "productive” right now,” but while commuting, i physically can’t. 💻️ i’m not going to whip out my laptop and grind. commutes are a good forcing function for me to let my brain take a breather and replenish my energy.

whenever i’m checking the bus route to some other neighbourhood in tokyo, one long ride always makes me happy. the lull of the subway paired with beautiful rushing tokyo scenery is a small joy for me — i’ll even intentionally pick a longer route to maintain this state of mind.

i love a long commute. this probably also as to do with my need for consistent quiet time.
