religiously getting in my steps 🚶‍♀️

onto today’s topic: i love walking 🚶‍♀️

what’s a “doable” walk to you in the measurement of minutes?

if your google maps route says 17 minute walk, is your reaction “ugh, let’s drive / catch a bus” or is it “omg, perfect! let’s start walking!”

i’m the latter, all the way until the 45-50 minute mark (unless the weather is heinous). especially in big, walkable cities, i love walking and prefer it as my #1 mode of transportation. it’s such a great way to truly explore a city, stumble on hidden gems, and get your steps in.

don’t get me wrong, i love public transportation too, but my standards were raised after korea & japan so the toronto ttc feels more gross than i ever remember it being. 😭 walking helps me actually internalize a map of the city — passing by stops rapidly doesn’t have the same effect.

once that map solidifies mentally, it’s such a satisfying feeling to walk somewhere without the help of google maps or any gps. it’s like an affirmation that you really did explore this area and know it well.

there are just so many events, art, and moments of humans being humans that you can enjoy if you choose to walk. my legs hate me for it, but i love being able to soak in the sun with music blasting in my ears and using my own two feet to get from point a to b.
