yapping is a good thing 🪞

onto today’s topic: i want to become charismatic 🪞

one of my 2024 resolutions is to become charismatic. i want to be able to start up a conversation and keep it going with absolutely anyone. it’s a skill in others that i admire a lot.

one aspect of this that i’ve recognized in myself to improve upon is my spontaneous storytelling in conversations. 🗣️ i can easily pitch ideas through storytelling or retell an experience that i’ve already talked about, but this is rehearsed. i want to work on my ability to tell compelling stories in the spur of the moment, rather than rambling with no purpose or just relying on someone else’s question-asking capabilities to unveil the story for me.

i’ve been asked “how was your time in sf?” quite a few times now, and i just answer the question in 1-2 sentences without spinning that prompt into a conversation.

charisma encompasses the energy and confidence you exude, the ability to hold a conversation, and overall open/relaxed body language. i feel like i’m decent at all 3 buckets, but i want to leave an impact on anyone that i talk to, and in order to do this i need to improve my storytelling just even when recounting a fun experience somewhere in the world. 🌎️

i don’t think breaking into a story on a topic is yapping at all, i call it being a good conversationalist LOL. there’s a huge difference between rambling and telling a story end-to-end. rambling is just spitting random points about the topic, without there really being any intention or succinct narrative.

are you a good storyteller? 📖
