onto today’s topic: introducing the tea farm cast šŸµ

over the past 3 weeks, i’ve been interning on a tea farm in rural japan. i’ll reflect on the actual experience later, but let me introduce you to some of the interesting people i’ve met. our cast.

  • hyoung-woo, our resident korean that hates korea. he was the intern already well-settled before sachi, philip & i arrived at the farm. i love how straight-up he is, coming after philip’s throat for no reason and telling us that he hopes ā€œfallout boys [the band] diesā€ (???? 😭).

  • joseph, the socially awkward one. our newest addition to the crew is joseph, an english teacher from czech republic. unfortunately, he’s a little socially awkward and we haven’t been able to have a full conversation with him, but i’m hoping he’ll get more comfortable soon!

  • michiyo-san, a god-tier cook. i never thought japanese food could be so good, especially since i’m vegetarian. šŸ„• every day, we get delicious home-cooked vegetarian meals. from yakisoba to dumplings, i’m so glad i’ve been able to try authentic japanese cuisine.

  • sachi, the sleepy. we have a tradition of watching a movie every night in the attic, and at the 58th minute sachi will, without fail, yawn or make a comment on how tired she is. it’s funny collecting datapoints for the 58 minute theory.

  • philip, the dealer of jokes and cards. philip always carries around 2 things: silly jokes, and a deck of studio ghibli-themed cards. not a day goes by where we aren’t laughing and increasing the tally of our games of black 3s.

  • tamiko-san, our mom. this whole experience is possible because of tamiko-san, who is hosting us during this internship. we get teased for our daily convenience store runs and relish in the delicious tea she brews for us each night.

  • kazuki-san, the drip lord. last but certainly not least is kazuki-san, tamiko-san’s husband and the coolest guy ever. he’s so chill and has some amazing style (need to know where he gets his jeans!). he also injects so much fun in our work afternoons (chopping bamboo, scenic detours etc.)

i’ve grown to know so many fun people in just a few weeks, and i adore the different flavours of life people bring to mine. (:
