onto today’s topic: know enough to hold a conversation 🗣️

a good indicator of whether or not you’re somewhat well-versed on a topic is your ability to hold a conversation with someone and then also make them equally-equipped with that knowledge.

if you’re able to probe and ask questions, derive insights, and pull from current news, you know enough to have a conversation with someone and that’s powerful. 🔈️ you never have to be a subject expert on a topic in order to have a meaningful conversation — an overview of relevant points enables you to make interdisciplinary connections and expand your breadth of knowledge exponentially.

i recently nerded out about developing a T, where you widen your breadth of knowledge by doing short sprints into different topics, and then grow expertise in one of those areas (visualize it like the letter ‘T’ in your head) by doing projects, completing courses and gaining experience. 📈 many of us hyper-fixate on becoming specialized despite the initial exploration and learning across different areas being equally, if not more, important.

if a random article on vr or a philosophical mode of thinking catches your interest, read it and maybe do a few google searches to answer any questions that come to mind. by the end of it, you’ll know enough to have a conversation with someone else and increase your likelihood of serendipity. ⚡️

the easiest way to be a good conversationalist is to be authentic.

the easiest way to be authentic is to speak about something you’re interested in.

the easiest way to be interested in something is to know something about it.

the easiest way to know more things is to go down rabbit holes.

are the dots connecting? ;)
