onto today’s topic: last pick to popcorn 🍿
i was on a zoom call with a group of strangers the other day and we were all introducing ourselves. after we finished our own introduction, we were asked to “popcorn” it to the next person — in other words, call out the name of someone you choose to go next.
immediately i knew it would be a while until my turn. understandable though, nobody wants to be the person that butchers someone else’s name. i ended up being correct too LOL, i introduced myself last and we moved on to the next part of the meeting.
introducing myself is always a 1-2 minute ordeal, especially at an event where there’s a lot of background noise. the initial “h” isn’t something you can really pronounce loudly so i hear “arsehaj” repeated back to me a lot. 😬
despite, the inhale of minor dread i take every time i’m prompted to introduce myself by name, i wouldn’t ever change it. i spent the entirety of elementary school with people mispronouncing my name because i was fed up correcting people and felt rude doing it. i don’t really let it slide anymore, and i will correct someone until they get it right.
to know me, you need to at least know the name that unlocks all of me first. 🤷♀️ i have stopped feeling guilty about that.
har-seh-hej.
it’s okay to butcher it at first sight, just make an effort to get it right afterwards.
