make memories
that 2016 summer vibe 🎞️

onto today’s topic: make memories 🎞️
the phenomenon of everyone falling back in love with 2016 music every summer needs to be studied. 2016 is no longer 2 years ago. not even 4.
2016 was 8 years ago, and for a lot of us that was our time of childhood freedom. summer brings that vibe back (at least for those of us still in school) only now we’re older — we have an extra level of freedom.
going on drives with friends, laying out food to eat as the suns sets, and beach days without the hanging responsibility of academics. it’s time to make memories. 📽️
but, many of us, instead of embracing this break, we think, “now is time to double-down on projects and 10x my productivity.” i’ve thought this way all my life, but now i’m not so sure.
i’m still working on a personal project, but i’m not sending myself into a workaholic frenzy.
i still have a routine and wake up at 7am, but i’m not strictly denying myself the opportunity to sleep-in.
i still am making progress every week, but i’m not saying no to going out with my friends.
these summers of complete freedom from employment, school, and responsibility are only so many. ⏳️ even if you have strict parents, an internship or part-time job, i wholeheartedly encourage you to find time to make those memories.
they last a lifetime. i have no doubt you’ll always be able to make these memories later in life too, but these 2016-like summers are special.
like nicki said, “how dare we sit quietly, and watch the world pass us by.” go out and be a kid, make memories. forgiveness is sometimes easier than permission.
as much as everyone around you might tell you, the world isn’t going to leave you behind if you take a break to enjoy the present. (:
