music is like a key
and we're the locks 🔑

onto today’s topic: music is like a key 🔑
it’s kind of wild how quickly music can flip my mental state.
music is like a key. one that unlocks personal blockers, physical limits, human connection, relationships, language barriers, and so much more.
it’s universal and leaves doors unlocked so anyone can pass through.
for me, it’s my first solution to brightening my mood or pushing myself harder. i had a weirdly rough day (mentally) today and sitting down to write this post paired with some hard-hitting ariana grande did the trick. 😋
when things get hard, change the narrative by overriding the plot with a powerful theme song. ;) maybe my brain is just chemically wired in a strange way, but i’m particularly easy to sway with music, and only in a positive way too. sad music has no effect on me.
when i was hiking kilimanjaro, music single-handedly pushed me up that damn mountain. i need to live up to the intensity of the music, and everything else is secondary, you know what i mean?
it’s a key that genuinely opens a door past my physical and mental limits that i didn’t know existed previously. because tell me why powering through 30 minutes on the stairmaster got 10x easier as soon as ‘role model’ by brent faiyez queued up on my playlist? 🤨
i have yet to find a better fit for the lock to language barriers than music. i connected with people all around the world with songs alone (bruno mars & jcole seem to be international favourites).
what’s your key to community and your capabilities, if it isn’t music?
