onto today’s topic: my experience with doctors 🏥
since middle school, i’ve had issues with my ankle from a soccer injury, but never got it taken to a hospital because i was still able to walk on it fine. i grew concerned when i realized my ankle was more prone to relapsing into that similar pain if i stepped on it wrong.
i took it to a doctor a year later after having trouble with it. i waited in a line for 3 hours (thank you canada wait times ..) and finally met with a doctor when it was my turn.
she asked me if it hurt and poked it a few times, and told me “it’s just muscle strain, keep your foot relaxed for some time.”
girl. 🧍♀️
i’m no doctor, but i don’t think muscle strain lasts for years (to this day). my guess is that i got a minor fracture that ended up healing on its own, maybe incorrectly. but no, it was apparently muscle strain, which i didn’t require an x-ray for.
that experience left a sour taste in my mouth and in turn fostered my avoidance of going to the doctor’s.
i only go if absolutely necessary and went recently in order to get a few papers signed. never in my life have i ever felt so disrespected. the doctor stared me up and down and said, “i’ve been in this practice for 40 years, i know what i’m talking about. you don’t.”
well damn. 💀 i just wanted to know if i could get the paperwork for a blood test.
it’s funny how the only times i’ve ever gone to the doctor of my own volition have been negative experiences. once upon a time i even wanted to be a doctor.
