onto todayās topic: my take on tipping šŖ
i will always tip my server. unless iām literally being berated or mistreated, i will tip my server without hesitation.
my thoughts on the growing reliance of customers tipping however? canāt say iām a fan. it should be a business or corporationās full responsibility to pay their workers appropriately. in a perfect world where this is true, tipping should be a token of additional appreciation if the customer was particularly moved by a service. it should not be a requirement or expectation. unfortunately, we donāt live in this perfect world, and so i do tip (+ bigger tip if the service is really great).
tipping for a boba order or getting a takeout meal? it might be a hot take, but iām not doing that. š a $2 tip on an already expensive $10 drink is a little wild. there is no additional service or effort put into something like that.
i understand and support tipping for employees in the service industry like hair stylists, nail techs or masseuses, but again, it shouldnāt be a given. tipping should be the result of a great service, and itās okay if you canāt tip in that case ā not everyone can afford a $20 tip on top of a $70 nail set. š
on that note, for solo businesses in the service industry, i find it particularly strange to expect tips when that individual sets their own prices to begin with. expecting tips out of necessity rather than satisfying a client in this specific case isnāt something i personally agree with.
that being said, iāll always tip when i feel particularly satisfied or happy with a service. itās a kind gesture. :)
