next wave for ai

onto today’s topic: next wave for ai 🤖

we all know openai’s chatgpt blew ai up for everyone around the world despite research into ml/ai going on for decades. with this huge spike, i have a strong feeling one of the larger waves will come in the form of ai agents.

gpt is basically a conversation with ai, but what if gpt could actually take action based on your requests? not just the simple action of sourcing information and best practices, but also booking those flights for a trip or sending a mass email?

what if you never had to open another app on your desktop again because you could just tell ai to go ahead and do everything? 📈

obviously, the api access and security is a huge concern, but that’s really the only large blocker for general ai agents being widely adopted. ai agents with specific use cases already exist — making them general is what brings the tech to the next level.

let me quickly explain what exactly ai agents are before you’re left wondering, “what the hell is she talking about?” by the end of this post.

briefly, an ai agent is a software that performs tasks on our behalf. they can automate processes, make decisions, and intelligently interact with their environment (source). they aren’t chatbots, which are meant for communication with humans. they perform actions. 🤝

one big example of an ai agent is autonomous vehicles. it’s ai performing the action with minimal human input. again, it’s a very specific application.

i’m interested in the generalized implementation of them, like having a personal assistant at hand.
