onto today’s topic: nonchalance isn’t cool 🤷♀️
i find it extremely amusing when people put up a nonchalant façade. it’s not cool to be indifferent, nor is it cool to not care about things. why hide away what makes you human and so uniquely yourself?
i bring this up because i was at a haunted house / corn maze yesterday and witnessed the funniest thing ever. 😭 the last section of the haunted maze was an actor with a chainsaw basically chasing after the people. there was a group of guys literally speed walking for their lives out of the maze in fear, yet still desperately trying to keep a straight face and shove their hands into their pockets.
it was comical, and made me reflect on why we all try so hard to keep up “tough” fronts and shed away vulnerability. it’s mostly because we associate vulnerability with weakness. i think that’s disappointing and the product of that perception (forced nonchalance) is absolutely ridiculous. 😬
it’s not cool to force a straight face when your heart wants to laugh, cry, or chatter away about your passions. it’s exhausting to put up a mask of indifference, and nobody really thinks it’s impressive except maybe the parasites of insecurity eating away from within.
“cool” is a social construct — shape it however you want.
