onto today’s topic: one interview tip 🎙️
bit of a ridiculous take, but i actually really enjoy interviews (the non-coding kind).
the biggest pitfall to interviewing is a lack of confidence and sacrificing your personality in favour of rigidness. professionalism and personality aren’t mutually exclusive — you can present both at the same time, and that’s the best way to both perform well.
my one interview tip is to enjoy it. ☀️ it’s probably not the “secret formula” you were seeking, but taking it easy will in turn reduce your stress and the answers to different questions will come to you naturally.
you can always try to prepare for any possible question, but knowing yourself as well as your unique experiences in and out will always serve you better. you’ll spin up narratives that connect your personal growth and slip in a joke or two that actually showcases who you are.
as you move up in different interview rounds, the qualifications of each candidate become more and more similar — your personality ends up being what differentiates you, and the easiest way to bypass the fear locking it away is to take it easy and enjoy the opportunity to get a few public speaking reps in. 💪
i had an interview yesterday and it was a blast. it also helped that the questions were interesting and there was an interactive component to the experience. i’m not an interviewing expert by any means, but my most successful interviews have also been the ones i’ve enjoyed most.
