onto today’s topic: optimism for the future 🚀
if you ask a random person on the street what they think the world will look like in 50 years, you’ll probably be met with a really pessimistic description of the world, and rightfully so.
riddled with the consequences of climate change, the population increasing at an inversely proportional rate to accessible resources and affordable housing, and a skyrocketing rate of homelessness/poverty, our perception of the future is focused on the bad outcomes of humanity. 🤖
there isn’t much existential hope, a concept i learned more about at the foresight institute’s 2023 vision weekend over the past 2 days.
the same way athletes do visualization training for their events, games, and races, our society also needs to visualize a positive future in order to actually conceptualize what we are working towards. an athlete visualizes crossing the finish line or scoring a winning goal repeatedly, thousands of times, so they can understand the steps leading up to it and feel more confident in achieving this vision. 🎯
we are extremely negative with our outlook on the future — our visions are full of conflict and catastrophe, which are certainly plausible if we allow current-day problems to fester and grow. however, if we visualize our future with more optimism, the path owards it will also become clearer and our passion for achieving such a vision will reignite.
it’s easy to feel hopeless about the future considering how our world is shaping out to be in this day and age, but all we have is hope and a desire to achieve a positive future to keep us chasing after solutions and change. 🏃
we must stay optimistic for the future, so that we can stay motivated to drive our present towards such a vision.
