kill your ideas sooner rather than later 👿

onto today’s topic: play devil’s advocate 👿
you have to be able to shoot down your own ideas if you wish to strike gold on something worth your time and energy.
i enjoy playing devil’s advocate against myself, and even towards others when they’re open to it. the best way to develop confidence in your work, opinions, or ideas is to poke holes and gather the appropriate information or resources to fill those gaps.
why wait for someone else to dismantle a bad idea, when you can do it yourself? 🤨
it’s uncomfortable, but necessary to add depth to your perspective.
to put it plainly, a devil’s advocate is someone who takes a contrary position in discussions not because they’re a negative person, but because they hope to spark conversation, challenge ideas, and provoke deeper thinking.
once you get over how frustrating it is to kill your ideas, it actually becomes a lot of fun to push yourself to consider a larger set of datapoints. before you know it, you’ll have the full picture painted right in front of you — you will have already built up armour for when others question you as well. 🪖
challenge yourself and challenge others constructively. don’t just nod when someone’s spewing fluff at you. ask questions and get to the root of it. just remember to be considerate while doing it.
