onto today’s topic: school isn’t the extent of education 🏫

school isn’t synonymous with education, and i hate how we’ve been brainwashed into believing it is. when people preach “focus on your education” to steer you away from personal projects and research, they’re really just saying “focus on school.” focus on submitting assignments and getting good grades so that you can frame a diploma somewhere.

we’ve used this system for so long that the longevity of it is exactly why we keep using it LOL. it has become a cycle that, over the years, has turned schooling education from quality to a matter of prestige. that isn’t the extent of education. ✏️

education extends beyond school. it isn’t supposed to be a linear pipeline of primary school → middle school → high school → college/uni etc..

school is a vessel for obtaining an education, sure. but, it certainly isn’t the only vessel — it’s not even the right one for a lot of people. education is about learning and acquiring knowledge or skills. there are countless different ways to go about it, yet we stick to school where our options are limited and learning is prescribed.

it sucks the joy for education out of us, and we cast away our desire for knowledge. 🔒️ we don’t go down rabbit holes of ideas or teach ourselves new topics, because they aren’t important to our “education.”

how sad is that?

don’t let school take away from your education. treat it as a vessel for pursuing your own, unique educational path.
