onto today’s topic: side hustles 💰️
everyone should have a side hustle under their belt.
experimenting with entrepreneurship and being strategic around making money are extremely valuable skills to have. even if it is yet another chocolate strawberry small business or selling resin art, i strongly believe the process of establishing a brand, building a customer base, and ideating on monetization with a low risk profile is something you can only gain through a side gig.
a full-blown operation dropping out of college to run a startup is another way to gain those skills .. but that obviously has a lot of risk involved. side hustles are a perfect way to test the waters and your check affinity for entrepreneurship at a smaller scale. 🤏
turning all of your hobbies into side hustles doesn’t make sense though. the intentions behind both are different from the get-go after all — you pursue a hobby to have fun and enjoy it, whereas the purpose of a side gig is to make money. sometimes the two can’t coexist, and that’s completely fine.
ex. maybe you crochet for fun and are looking to take on commissions to turn this hobby into a side gig. 🧶 soon enough, all of your free time is dedicated to crocheting because you’ve taken on a lot of orders or simply because one order takes a particularly long time. it’s laborious, and your enjoyment for crochet may fizzle out.
realizing what side hustles would make the most sense for you is also a good lesson to learn in and of itself. so, if you don’t already have a side hustle of some sort under your belt, i highly recommend thinking about potential opportunities for it in your life right now.
my current side hustle is making video-content for brands in tech & wellness! (: i’ve learned a whole lot about negotiating contracts, organization and content creation (ofc).
