onto today’s topic: my sister 👯♀️
today marks the day of having a sister, menace and best friend all wrapped into one for 15 years.
having a sister is a blessing — a built-in best friend that recovers immediately from any argument, no matter how big or small. as the older one, i’ve always felt this nagging requirement of being a mini-parent. as we’ve grown older together, this relationship has turned more into one of close friends.
her ridiculously gen-alpha humour never fails to make me laugh and watching her always trail after me has been one of my life’s greatest joys. i wouldn’t trade it for the world. when she first picked up her own pair of rollerblades, when we always end up unknowingly wearing matching outfits, when she used to sit beside me with a matching book in hand despite not even knowing how to read yet, when we would stay up late chattering away in quiet whispers so our parents wouldn’t hear, my childhood memories were made sweet because of my sister. 💝
i’ve never disliked being the oldest sibling, because my sister is a testament to my pride, love and joy for this role. i want nothing more than to continue shining a light on this confusing world for my sister and watching her flourish.
i’m not the only one doing the teaching. her kind, relentlessly authentic spirit has given me a lot to learn from as well. she has taught me about vulnerability and empathy, while i’ve taught her about resilience and perseverance. that sentence alone probably says a lot about how different our personalities are. the two of us are so different in our nature, yet our taste is pretty much the same. i wonder why … 🤨
guneet, i love you endlessly and will always look forward to laughing so hard that i can’t breathe with you.
happy birthday. <3
