onto today’s topic: strategy as a necessity ✅
in the world of startups, rapid execution will never fail to impress, unless there’s no strategy or plan following it.
i’m a huge believer of executing on deliverables and goals with speed, as long as a certain quality is maintained, but it kind of falls apart when we’re moving so fast that we can’t even take in the changes in our surroundings and adjust to our goals accordingly
great execution means you can run fast in any direction. good strategy ensures you’re running fast in the right direction. 🏃♀️
there’s a trend of scoffing at the idea of strategy in the startup world; however, the most successful startups all have good strategy. it’s not just a matter of setting goals; one must completely understand the core challenges and opportunities in a given market, establish a guiding policy that dictates standardized decision-making, and take focused actions to create a lasting advantage in this market.
acting on ideas without being grounded to strategy will ultimately lead to a company’s downfall, not having lived up to that idea’s full potential.
while thinking through strategy may feel like an academic exercise that just takes time away from the actual doing, it’s a crucial facet to consider in ensuring a business is sustainable long-term. strategy and rapid execution must work together, but don’t get too hung up on planning when you’re in the early stages. 😋
