tapping into childlike wonder

onto today’s topic: tapping into childlike wonder 🪄

we all grew up pointing and yelling “omg, horsies!” while driving past a farm.

or we asked our parents, “why is the moon following us?” even if we were already told the answer last week.

or we pretended to be asleep in the car so our parents would carry us inside.

at some point we did these things for the last time. that childlike wonder fizzled out into not caring enough to find the answers to seemingly unimportant questions or restricting yourself from carefree excitement over a passing animal. 🐕️

nurturing your inner child is important, and my safari experience in the serengeti this past week did exactly that — my childlike wonder was reignited. surrounded by the vast landscapes i only ever saw on the tv while watching national geographic documentaries with my family after dinner and seeing animals i only ever saw in picture books in elementary school, a permanent smile was plastered on my face as i pointed to each animal in sight asking, “what animal is that?”

katarina mentioned we sounded like 2nd graders with the level of questions we were asking, and honestly? we did, but that made the experience so much more magical. we were filled with raw, unfiltered curiosity. with no reception, we couldn’t even search up our “dumb” questions and were instead granted even more information from our local guide whose experiences told more riveting tales than a wikipedia “fun facts” section ever could. 💡

i’m looking back at the pictures captured during our safari now and i can’t help but notice how massive all of our grins are in each photo. with each new animal spotted, we jumped from the seats of our jeep and peered outside the roof, gazing around in childlike wonder.

how amazing it was to see animals i forgot existed naturally in the wild with their own stories to tell. the world is so vast, and exploring it fosters curiosity. this curiosity taps into the childlike wonder we unknowingly let go of years ago.

wow wow wow. the world is great. 🌍️
