onto today’s topic: a travel planning essential 🗓️
it doesn’t matter if you’re traveling with friends or family, you need to give yourself time alone. you might be the most extroverted person alive, but that social energy is most definitely not a bottomless well.
taking time to go do something solo while traveling with a group isn’t selfish or rude. i always make it a point to establish that it’s completely fine for us to split up if we want to do different things beforehand.
it’s harder with family, i know, but it’s a good idea to find little escapes for your own sanity LOL. 😵💫 whether that’s getting breakfast early, going on a walk, or strapping on headphones and dissociating (haha ….), find some way to replenish your energy.
travel tends to be very ‘go, go, go’ unless you’re just chilling at a resort, and that in turn sets the scene for tension and arguments. being solo will trigger mental reset and dial your patience back close to its starting point.
even if not for the reset, don’t compromise all the things you wanted to do on the trip just because everyone in the group didn’t reach a consensus. go and do those things yourself or maybe with whoever that was interested. just make sure throw that solo-time disclaimer out there — communication is the easiest way to diffuse conflict after all. 😁
