onto today’s topic: type-a vs. type-b 🪙

i’ve seen the type-a/type-b personality classification get brought up a lot recently and wanted to set the distinctions straight for myself. to preface, however, i take any sort of character grouping with a grain of salt because humans are extremely nuanced and a label can’t encapsulate the entire essence of our personalities.

that being said, they’re fun to learn about and make connections back to myself.

let me briefly summarize each type as classified by behavior patterns and stress responses. type-a individuals are competitive, goal-driven, and prone to stress, often multitasking and working with urgency. they can be impatient, aggressive, and at higher risk for stress-related health issues. they tend to be susceptible to coming up with a mental schedule, even on vacation, and rushing for no real reason. 🏖️

type b individuals are relaxed, easygoing, and less competitive, handling stress well and prioritizing enjoyment over constant achievement. they’re patient, adaptable, and less likely to experience anxiety or health problems due to stress. they are also, however, pretty prone to taking it a little too easy and stumbling when it comes to executing on tasks and being on time.

there seems to be a clear “winner” here: the type-b personality. i like to say that i’m type a in my actions, but type-b in my mindset. i act with urgency and lead that momentum towards achieving my goals, but have genuinely internalized an appreciation for the present. there are specific characteristics in both types that frustrate me when i encounter them with others, and other traits i see in myself as well. being too much of a stress-bug or free-spirit isn’t always a great thing; hence why labels aren’t the most effective when it comes to our identities. 🤷‍♀️
