understanding why
get to the bottom of it 🔎

onto today’s topic: understanding why 🔎
i’m the type of person that has to understand the why behind different concepts learned in class, code structure, and even words of advice. i don’t like taking information at face level — i only learn when i know why, because i can then make those connections for myself in the future.
i find it difficult to memorize processes (for tackling a math problem, setting up a fastapi server, etc.) without knowing why i’m following them. the sequential order needs to make sense or else i won’t feel like i actually learned anything, rather i just copy-pasted information from a different source. without understanding, there’s no unique interpretation, and being able to convey your own interpretation of something is proof of having learned it. 🍎
this is also why the top-down approach to learning certain skills is sometimes not so compatible with my learning style. i like to think of it as zigzagging from top to bottom in rapid succession because as soon as something doesn’t make logical sense in my brain, i need to get to the bottom of it asap.
it’s also why i’m very prone to falling into internet rabbit holes — i like to think of it as developing a lot of “T”s. look into a wide breadth of topics and build a spike down into areas i’m unfamiliar and interested in to form a “T.” 🧠
i was indeed that kid that always asked, “why?”
