onto today’s topic: weekly startup spotlight 🔬 

i’ve been wanting to explore and dive deeper into different startups that excite me so i thought, why not inject that into my blog?

i’m going to do a weekly series (on saturdays?) where i take a look at a startup working on something fascinating and share my insights on their problem/solution space here.

tava health is a b2b mental health startup focused on helping employers and employees access therapy efficiently. it differs from existing employee assistance programs (eap) as it connects employees with therapists rapidly and actually matches company availability hours. ⌛️ 

my mind immediately jumped to well, a similarly-driven startup improving mental health in the workplace through a personalized wellness experience. evidently, there’s a need for mental health services/interventions in the workplace

tava health sells to existing companies that will benefit from increased retention, lowered medical costs, and a boosted your culture as a result of better mental health care.

let’s talk numbers! 🤓 

tava health has seen a 25% utilization, which is 12x higher than the traditional eap, and impressively, there has been a 55% reduction in turnover for employees using tava. they’re also targeting a total addressable market (tam) of up to $40 billion annually, considering employers will spend an estimated $150 to $500 per employee per year on mental health improvement for about 20% to 50% of the workforce (32 million to 80 million workers).

questions i’d be interested to ask:

  • are private therapists able to onboard their own clients onto the platform in addition to serving tava’s clients?

  • what have been the biggest pain points in the onboarding process for employers/employees?

  • what initiatives are being pushed to improve utilization?
