onto today’s topic: what is serendipity? ✨

i’ve mentioned the word serendipity a lot, but recently realized that i haven’t actually written a post defining it and its importance to me.

a mini rabbithole led me to discover that the term “serendipity” was actually coined based on a persian fairytale: “the three princes of serendip.” it’s a tale symbolizing happy accidents and the art of making fortunate discoveries, even in situations where they’re least expected. the story’s theme does a pretty good job summarizing what serendipity is.

to help put it into context, serendipity is when you meet your childhood best friend you lost touch with in a coffee shop on a random tuesday. ☕️

it’s when you go on a walk and find a perfect little garden to lay in.

it’s when you accidentally get off on the wrong bus stop and find yourself in the middle of a music festival.

the common denominator for serendipity is putting yourself out there, and trying new things. the universe’s random variables won’t make contact with you if don’t increase the opportunities for it to do so. 🧮

my friend sahil recently told me about his love for random interactions, and i think it fits really well into the great feeling of serendipity. random interactions, spontaneous outings, and mistakes all have a possibility of going so wrong.

but, the reason for its possibility is because there’s another outcome: something going so right.

that’s serendipity. magic that springs up out of nowhere. 🪄
