when idk what to write

my 2 solutions 🤔

onto today’s topic: when idk what to write 🤔

i come up with a new topic or idea to write about every single day.

some days an idea flows like water and i write a post in 10 minutes. other days, i draw a blank and just stare at the screen. those posts take an hour to write, sometimes more. for the most part, i come up with a topic on the spot. i don’t really pre-plan posts, and that’s an intentional decision i’ve made. this blog is like a diary in some ways: a record of my thoughts, experiences and emotions for each day.

there are a few cases where i’ll have a topic planned before hand, like trip recaps, special days (new years, birthday, etc,) or recurring series. 95% of the time though i start cooking up an idea once i click “start new post.”

on days when i’m truly stumped on what to write i do 2 things:

1) skim my list of unwritten topics 📓

you’re probably thinking, why don’t you just knock out all the posts for this list? well, i don’t always feel like writing about the thoughts i noted down on my notion. when i’m stumped, these unwritten thoughts sometimes inspire a different post or i’ll just actualize that idea itself into writing.

2) rewind my day ⏪️

if the list doesn’t work, i’ll reflect on highlights, lowlights, and any interesting experiences from my day. i’ll extract some sort of takeaway or main idea from it and then write about that.

it has been working so far! i haven’t been stumped to the point of not writing at all despite nearing 10 full months of writing about a new topic every day. :)
