onto todayās topic: why lego is so beloved š§±
post-christmas, my 8 year old brother is sitting on the floor surrounded by thousands of lego pieces and having the absolute time of his life.
at the end of the room, my 15 year old sister is putting together the last pieces of her own lego set.
as i packed up my own lego flowers set to continue building at a later time, i realized that literally everyone loves lego regardless of their age or demographic. i wonder why that is?
i hypothesize three big reasons:
1) act of creation šØ
thereās a deep satisfaction in putting pieces together and achieving a finished product that you made with your own two hands. put on some music, and itās one of the most grounding experiences ever. itās human nature to create, innovate, and build, and lego establishes a very comfortable, and guided, environment to do so.
2) sets that last š°ļø
lego sets are both physically and emotionally long-lasting. i still have sets that i made when i was 8 years old and remember each of the corresponding stories. we all have a bit of a collectorās muscle in us, so seeing the creations grow over time is extremely rewarding. not only that, purchasing the sets doesnāt feel like a waste of money when taking their longevity into consideration.
3) nostalgia š
lego isnāt just for kids ā in fact, it has one of the most loyal adult fanbases and thatās largely because nostalgia is a powerful thing. a lot of themed sets often reflect older generationsā childhoods and constructing that world once more provides a lot of comfort and evokes nostalgia.
do you like lego?
